My New Start

Good Morning Everyone!

Go figure, I don't post for almost a month and now this is my second one in the last couple of days. But I did tell you I had a new start so I wanted to show you,
Last Wednesday I went to Watertown, SD for my Postal Test (and I passed it, so I still have a job)
Anyway in Watertown they have a framing and small stitching shop so I stop to see if there was anything that I could not live without.
This new start was one of my purchases and I got the frame for it also.

And I already have a spot picked out to hang it in my kitchen.

This is a short post today, I need to get a shower and head to the Heart Hospital as my Mother in law is having a pace maker put in today.

Return from Weekend Retreat

Good Morning Everyone!
Time fly's by and Its been awhile since I blogged.
Stitching has been off and on for me. I have been working on getting my taxes done so I could get them to the tax man. Last weekend I went to Lake Shetek for a weekend stitching retreat with about 35 other women. Some cross stitched, some quilted and some scrap booked, lots of creativity going on. Here are a few pictures of the weekend.
Our mornings started with a beautiful sunrise!

This is my daughter learning to applique -  her first time ( the lady that is showing her how to do this project just happens to have been her 4th grade teacher also)
And this is her finished appliqued wall hanging. She did a great job for the first time.

The weather was so nice that some sat outside and worked on there projects.
What a peaceful place to stitch

  Some sat and napped.

I had one finish over that weekend
Garden Rose by Blackbird Designs
started - 2/8/15
finished stitching - 2/14/15
fabric - 32ct cream Belfast linen
threads- Classic Color Works - Jakey Brown

And the next two pieces I just worked on. I have pictures of them and they look great until I put them on here and they look horrible so I will have to show them in the next post after I figure out what's going on.
They were We Three Kings and American Flag Quilt Sampler. I have a long ways to go on both of them.
Here is an example of what the pictures look like when I download them and they look fine on the camera. oh well you can see how far I have gotten any way.

I do have a new start but I will tell you about it in my next post.

This last picture is of my 3 favorite girls
daughter, Kay - Granddaughter, Sharlee and daughter, Jill
Until Next Time

2 New Starts

Good Morning Everyone!

I got the husband off on his snow mobile trip to WY this morning , so that means I have the 4 days to myself! I don't have to cook if I don't want to and If I don't cook that means no dishes to do (I hate dishes)

Last weekend my daughters and I went to a Martina Mcbride concert, it was awesome! We went out and had Mexican for supper before the concert which was excellent also!!!! That was Friday night and Saturday my grandson's had basketball tournaments until 2:00 - I very much enjoyed the morning sitting and watching them play. Then I headed to Madison for Kacee's 9th birthday party, at the community center so the kids could swim in the indoor pool they had a blast. I didn't get home until about 7:00 and I was ready to sit and put my feet up!

Saturday I also finished stitching the main part of Woodland Folks so now all I have to do is add the clouds and Zachary's birth information.

I have had a couple of new starts this past week - the first one I saw on ebay  and wanted it really bad. I bid on it and end up being out bid at the last minute. So I went searching to see if I could find another one. Ended up ordering it from 123 Stitch. The funny part is that I got the pattern and the called for floss for less than what the person on ebay paid for her pattern so I turn out the winner.
Here is my progress on Rose Garden
 by Blackbird Design.
Stitched on 32 ct crea Belfast linen
with Classic Color Works - Jakey Brown

My second new start is called Let it Snow
designed by Ozark Sampler - Mill Hill
Here is my progress
I can not remember the last time I used 14 ct Aida, but I had a pretty piece of light blue ( which you can't see by my picture) which matched the floss that I am using perfectly. (14ct is also easier on the eyes) Kinda fun to switch it up a little.

I have to work this afternoon but have tomorrow off from work. I plan to go and get my nails done and do a little shopping. Then tomorrow night my granddaughter will perform at half time of the basketball game. This will be the first time that I will see her dance with her group. Should be fun to watch.

My husband and I had our picture
 taken for the church directory

Well that's about all for this week!

Cleaning In The Sewing Room

Good Morning Everyone!!!

The last couple of days I have been working in my sewing room. It seems that when I finish a project I have a tendency to leave it lay on the counter, and start a new project. So I put away a lot of threads and organized my fabric. Generally cleaned up the sewing room.

As I was putting things away I came across something that I started back in Sept. and only worked on it for a couple of days but its almost done. And I never blogged about it.
Crazy Quilt Mini Stocking
Stoney Creek Collection
(Sorry for the fold in the material )
I will leave this one out so that I can finish it up.

I have been working on the back stitching on Woodland Folk - here is my progress
I have a few flowers and back stitching on left side of the log. Then to add the clouds with Zachary's birth information.

I had a finish on Thursday,

"My House"
Little House Needleworks
fabric - 30 ct. Iced Cappuccino
floss- DMC
Started - 1/30/15
Completed - 2/5/15

On Saturday I spent the day watching my two favorite boys play basketball. A total of 6 games.
Gavin #7 is in 5th grade

Trey #33 is in 6th grade.

Auntie Kay and her favorite niece Sharlee  goofing around.

As I am typing this I got a text message from my daughter - she sent me the schedule for this coming Saturdays basketball games. Another long day of game, but love watching them play.

Well time to get some work done!
Have a great week!

Weather in the Dakota's

Good Morning Everyone!

How is everyone's weekend going?  Ready for the Super Bowl? I am not a big sports person but I will watch (or listen to it mostly).

Yesterday I was sitting at my dinning room table playing on my lap top and I looked up and out the window, this is what I saw.
See the squirrel sitting in my bird feeder. This little guy must have know what was coming.
Because ---

Sitting here at my lap top again this morning and this is what I see.
yucky white stuff!!!!

Well on to the more important stuff!
This week I worked on Woodland Folks and it's looking pretty good I think.
Lots of backstitching in the grass and the log. I am not going to put this one away this week, I would like to get some more backstitching done on it.

when I need to take a break from the backstitching I will work on a new start.
Little House Needleworks  "My House"
I was playing with my stash the other day and this one jump out at me so I found some fabric that would work and the DMC floss. It calls for 3 Classic Colorworks that I didn't have so I am sticking with the DMC.
And this is where I am this morning on it.
I really debated changing the ecru snow to a bright white but in the end decided I like the ecru. So we will see if I like it when it is completed.

I have been playing on ebay this last week and have made some purchases. One thing that I was hoping to win was a Blackbird Design - Rose Garden. But someone went higher than I was willing to go. So I didn't win it and was determined to fine me one. I went  to 123 Stitch and ordered it and the 3 skeins of floss it called for. I purchased the pattern and floss for the same amount that she paid for her pattern on ebay. Sometime ebay is not the way to go.

Well I think its time to get back to my stitching!

Christmas Stitching

Good Morning Everyone!

I have a busy day planned but wanted to get a post out there before it gets started.
First I have to go get tags for our vehicles, stop at the ASCS office and talk to them about the farm program, then head south to Sioux Falls and order new glasses for the husband and I have my eye exam at 11:00am,& planning on getting my nails done. Then back home to get ready to go out with my daughter tonight, we are going to go out for supper and then watch bull riding at the Expo. I have watch bull riding on TV but never seen it in person, so it should be fun.

Now for an update on my stitching

Lizzie Kate
Christmas Blessings
Flip it - Joy
This was a quick stitch! I now have 9 of these done and 3 left to stitch.

The next thing I worked on was Christmas Envelope Cards. I was hoping to finish it by today but that didn't happen but I did make great progress.
This is only one of six envelopes that I found on Pinterest. And beings I work at a small Post Office in our community I thought they would be fun to stitch and display in my office at Christmas time.

My plan for the weekend and next week is working on Woodland folks - which reminds me I need to order a skein of green for it. I will have to do that after i finish this post. There is a lot of backstitching to get done on this piece. And there is the possibility that I might get this one done by next Friday. We will see what this next week brings me.

I leave you with a picture of my granddaughter, she is learning to drive a snowmobile that once belong to her older brother. She is not as excited about driving it as he was. She would rather be inside with me, but she had fun.

My last Post for 2014

Good Morning Everyone!
My My My the time does fly by!
And this Chick has not felt the blogging mood for a long time!
I have still been reading a lot of blogs and enjoying all the eye candy you all are showing.
My goal for 2015 is to do better with the blogging but have found that I get more done around the house and stitching if I keep the computer time to a minimum.

Here are some of the things I have been stitching on for the last couple of months:

for some reason un-be-known to me I can't get it turned correctly. But they are a couple of fall finishes

My new addition to my stitching area is this 6 drawer stand. Each drawer is big enough for a project that I am working on.  I just love it!

My new addition to my kitchen
My old refrigerator died on me and I have been wanting one of these with the freezer on the bottom for a very long time.

The week before Thanksgiving my sister came up from NM for a visit and we drove down to my niece's for her son's baptism. We had a wonderful weekend and an early thanksgiving dinner with them on Sunday.

I am still working on this little guys birth sampler. I am not done with it yet because his mother keeps telling me it ok to work on other projects. But here is an update so far.
Sorry about the wrinkles but I won't press it until I am finished with it.
I am working on the hedgehog at the moment. aren't those little critters the cutest!

when we got home from Iowa and our visit I stitched this little ornament up for my niece for her Christmas tree.
Its Called One More Stitch by Victoria Sampler and can be found in the 2014 Christmas ornament magazine.
And here is the back side
I put her initials on it. She also stitches but with 2 little ones her stitching time is limited. I remember those days.

Last but not least
I finished this little ornament up yesterday.
Perfect Gift
Full Circle Design
from the 2004 Christmas ornament magazine.
started - 12-15-14
finished 12-28-14

So with that ornament finished its back to some of my WIP's for a little while.

It's been a busy last couple of months with my sister coming home, harvest here on the farm. Christmas programs, shopping, working a few more hours. I am hoping for a little more me time after the first of the year.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas
and that you have a
Blessed New Year!

Happy Stitching and see you all next year!!!!!

Stitching Retreat at Lake Shetek

Good Morning Everyone!

I got back for Lake Shetek on Sunday afternoon and I am just now getting things put away. I didn't have to work at the Post Office yesterday so I chose to spend it with my grandchildren. We had a great time, we went out for lunch, and then hung out at the shop.

The boys sprayed out the beans and cleaned out the combine for grandpa.
And my granddaughter took a nap.
Well now on to the stitching stuff.

Jill and I packed up and left after she got off work on Wednesday night.
Thursday morning we woke up to this beautiful sight!
Thursday Morning

Saturday Morning

American Flag Quilt Sampler
Finished backstitching Mississippi and completed Illinois
Here is We Three Kings before and after

And last but not least

I finished back stitching the little fox and got the squirrel done
A picture from where I was sitting and working

This was the deck right out side our work area - there are 2
squirrels playing on it.

And these are the towels that my daughter made for me to hang on my stove.
Aren't they cute.
Well there are a lot more pictures and stories to show and tell but I need to get to work so off I go for now.

Good Morning Everyone! I just got back from having coffee with my daughter. This is something I don't normally get to do because she ...
